2021.12.04 13:12 RedZekrom My experience with being shredded and its impact on my mental health
This might be a somewhat unusual post for this group and I hope I do not get hated on for this, but I just want to post about my experience getting and being shredded and its impact on mental health.
I am a formerly "fitness-obsessed" male. I kept a low body fat (6-9%) for a long time (picture below) -like 4-5 years (which is certainly an unhealthy and stupid thing to do).
I have become less physically able over time and getting through the day was often a chore. I had to use stimulants just to function. I was always tired and cold. I developed hormonal problems. But I did not care much, as being lean has become sort of an "addiction" and something I identified with. Furthermore, people commented on my looks and girls were far more into me.
I looked the way I wanted to, but it came at a price I did not consider before. I lost most of my former emotionality (I have always been quite an emotional person). Now, I felt nothing (e.g. no butterflies when interacting with girls). Well, for a long time my baseline has been quite anhedonic (low emotions), perhaps without really realizing.
For me, the only thing that would increase emotions were various pharmacological agents (caffeine, ephedrine, modafinil)...or food. In fact, I used to get very euphoric when anticipating food or eating food, up to the point where I used to eat a lot of chocolate very slowly.
From the literature, I can gather that anhedonia and/or emotional blunting and even emotional apathy is extremely common in anorexia nervosa (and other eating disorders) -in fact, almost everyone gets it. Well, I guess when it comes to starvation survival (i.e. food) is a "winner takes all" and it does make sense that ones hedonic/opioidergic response to food and food-related cues is vastly exaggerated whereas the hedonic response to all else is very low.
(Side note: However, this does not just apply to people with a pathologically low level of body fat and/or BMI (i.e. anorectics), but also to normal-weight individuals and even to overweight individuals who have been (yo-yo)-dieting for a long time as brain-wise similar neuromodulation and neuroendocrine mechanisms are at play. Certainly it does apply to super lean individuals -unless they are genetic freaks.)
For me, gaining a little bit of body fat brought back my emotionality big time (and I would say to normal levels).
(Side note: next to emotional apathy, being "shredded" for a long time does also somewhat rob you of your former personality -which is somewhat related to your brain not being physiologically capable anymore to generate normal emotions, which of course does impact the way you think and behave -aka. personality).
I´d be interested in others' experiences with this matter. Have you experienced something similar?

2021.12.04 13:12 riwalk71 Serious Question: What about the masked people who die?
I just stumbled on this sub, and to say it’s disturbing is an understatement.
Not because people weren’t being stupid (a ton of them were), but rather because there’s a strong implication from each post that they would still be alive if they had been wearing masks.
But that’s wrong. 800k have died in the United States, many of them at a time when mask wearing was both required and ubiquitous.
This sub seems to just be the inverse of survivors bias. For every post on this sub, you could make 100 posts that say, “Such and such died—they wore a mask everywhere.”
Is there anyone willing to seriously discuss this, or is everyone just happy with demonizing a small subset of Covid’s victims?

2021.12.04 13:12 cn3m_ Proved himself wrong! Alhamdulillah!
I've screenshotted your post u/Hiyaro before you deleted them but I'm not going to post it without your permission. In either case, this is my response:
It seems you have trouble with english[sic].Quite the contrary. Perhaps I should clarify that you are writing transliterated Arabic texts into Latin alphabets.
So I'll make an effort into giving answers in arabic[sic] or providing arabic[sic] sourcesNo comment.
(I just need to fix the arabic[sic] font because it is too small and it hurts my eyes).Perhaps, you are not used to read Arabic?
I need a source for this quoteI already did before. (التمهيد) Other good points are in page 260 and onward.
Because Al istiwa fi lugha means many many things :The source of reference you provided are against you (i.e. fatawapedia). Alhamdulillah. Perhaps you did not bothered to check who answered it.
بيان معنى استوى في لغة العربThat reference has nothing to do with the subject matter. Here, we are talking about what Allah says in the Qur'an in relation to:
or you can watch this videoYou can also watch this:
the 'Uluw comes from على and not from الاستواءWho says that? You? Since I see that you are supposedly quoting from imam adh-Dhahabi from his book (سير أعلام النبلاء), perhaps you did not know that he was among the students of shaykhul-Islam ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon them both)? Did you know that he has a book called (كتاب العرش)?
without providing a source.I did but you did not see it and I referenced it: (الاستذكار). Read again my comment, it's there. You also must be very ignorant that the author is actually ibn 'Abdul-Barr (may Allah have mercy upon him) and not ibn Taymiyyah. My quotation was from 'Abdullah ibn Naafi' who was also a companion of imam Maalik.
in reality it is only found related by ibn taymiyah with no chain while all mallikis narrate with the full chain and correct wording :Didn't you know that imam al-Bayhaqi, imam adh-Dhahabi and al-Haafidh ibn Hajar are all Shaafi'ee in madhhab? I haven't even quoted anything from shaykhul-Islam ibn Taymiyyah in relation to that. Hence, you are coming with nonsensical remark here. Rather unsubstantiated claim. Yet, you only seemingly quoted from two Maalikis. The source of reference I provided, i.e. ibn 'Abdul-Barr is also Maaliki in case you didn't know.
Anyway and there are much much more maliki scholars that narrate the same narration. How ignorant one can be. You didn't know who you were even referencing from and ignorant of the source of reference I've provided were also Maaliki scholar.
Yet, the "al kayf majhool" one is only found in salafi sources...
Yet, the "al kayf majhool" one is only found in salafi sources..In terms of your supposed quotation of imam al-Qarafi (may Allah have mercy upon him). Do you really understand Arabic or do you rely on the translations? What you just said contradicts what imam al-Qarafi said. Where did you copy+pasted that from? They did a horrible job of translating it because what the texts says in Arabic is very different from the translation. In either case, his [real] statement [that is, in Arabic] only proves my reference. Alhamdulillah. Hence, your reference is in favor of me and against you.
imam al qurtubi himselfs says so in his tafseer of ayah 29 of surat al baqara says :I don't know if I should laugh or what. Did you only read it once? Read it again, it proves exactly my point. Or let me give you the Arabic reference:

2021.12.04 13:12 phoenix00059 My 8 year old girl cousin is obsessed with makeup. What should I do?
So her mother sometimes leaves her in our home. She normally hangs around the house and time to time talk with us while we are busy with something else.
She is a good kid but She is obsessed with makeup. Recently she is hanging around only where we keep makeup stuff. Yesterday she asked for wearing a lipstick and I was a bit shocked to see she took out the expensive one my mother uses. She ignored the others which were scattered. I believe she understands which is branded which I did not expect.
Today I prohibited her from going near makeup rooms because I am not comfortable with the idea that 8 yr old is so much obsessed with makeup and understand the difference between expensive and cheap ones. She is also bugging her parents to buy those brands for her. Did I do the right thing?
